THE JANESVILLE AREA KNITTING GUILD
was founded on November 14, 1985. The
JAKG began with a few interested knitters and quickly expanded to over thirty members in the first year. At
each meeting, a program designed to inspire and teach is presented to the members with time allowed to ask questions, share
knitting projects and announce items of interest to knitters. Classes, workshops, knitting days and community
knitting times are also scheduled. Each year the Guild organizes and supports community programs to distribute
knitted items to those in need. The first annual Knit-In was held on January 11, 1990 and continues to
be our most successful event. The Knit-in offers classes presented by knitters from across the country
and a chance to shop for the newest yarns and equipment from a variety of vendors.
The purpose of the Janesville Area Knitters Guild is to encourage high standards of quality of workmanship
and to further the appreciation of knitting and other associated handwork through education and communication.
